AG2 at the 21st ICAO TRIP Symposium in Montréal

-     Putting Trust into Practice: Towards Trusted Travel Identity for All.

Montréal, September 2026 - AG2 exhibited at the Twenty-first Symposium and Exhibition on the ICAO Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP), held at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal from 22 to 24 September 2026. Representing AG2 at the event were Managing Director Andy Clarkin and Technical Director Wil Byrne.

The TRIP Symposium is ICAO's leading global forum on traveller identification. It brings together passport-issuing authorities, civil registries, border-control agencies, airlines, international organisations and industry. This year's event attracted hundreds of delegates from around the world under the theme "Putting Trust into Practice: Towards Trusted Travel Identity for All."

Meeting the identity community

The AG2 stand set out the company’s core proposition: independent security design for passports and identity documents. Over the three days, Andy and Wil met delegates from issuing authorities, government agencies and industry partners to discuss how independent design, procurement advice and programme delivery can help States modernise their travel documents while keeping control of their own requirements.

"TRIP is where the people responsible for the world's travel documents come together, and it is always valuable to be part of those conversations," said Andy Clarkin.

What the symposium covered

The symposium provided an opportunity to explore developments across the traveller identification and travel document landscape, with discussions spanning both established approaches to document security and emerging digital solutions.

Topics across the programme included the evolution of international standards and frameworks, the development and potential use of Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs), and the importance of interoperability between travel documents, digital identity systems and border processes. Other areas of interest included identity verification, secure document issuance, emerging technologies and the ongoing development of cryptographic approaches to support long-term security.

Across these areas, the programme reflected the range of technical, operational and governance considerations involved in developing trusted travel identity systems, while highlighting the importance of international cooperation and common standards.

Looking ahead

For AG2, the symposium confirmed that the physical passport and its digital counterparts will develop together. Issuing authorities need well-designed, secure documents today and a clear path to digital credentials tomorrow. We look forward to continuing the conversations that started in Montréal.
